Unlicensed I-684 Driver Caught With Cocaine, 30 Grams Of Pot, Police Say

A 30-year-old man is behind bars after a stop on I-684 led to the discovery of both cocaine and marijuana, state police from the Brewster barracks.

Troopers conducted a traffic stop of a 2014 Ford Escape on I-684 in Southeast on Tuesday, Feb. 6 at 1:45 a.m. for a violation of the vehicle and traffic law. While interviewing the operator, a strong odor of marijuana was detected, state police said. Further investigation found approximately 30.2 grams of marijuana and 3.7 grams of cocaine.

Jay Sanchez of Danbury was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the fourth degree (a Class C felony), criminal possession of marijuana, a Class B misdemeanor, and aggravated unlicensed operation, an unclassified misdemeanor.

Sanchez was arraigned before the town of Kent Court and remanded to the Putnam County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 bond.
